Dorothy Dixon Allen Guild Funds Library Renovation
The Dorothy Dixon Allen Guild, led by Poo Penrose, daughter of Dorothy Dixon Allen, raised $25,000 to renovate the library on our Queen Anne campus.  Susan Adkins, longtime supporter of Seattle Children's Home learned of our need to cull, update and renovate our library.  Mrs. Adkins, with her master's degree in library science was the perfect volunteer to get the ball rolling.  Schultz Miller Construction, BMP Paint, Karen Jensen Design and Danielle Varanda from Essential Services are providing their expertise to the project.

University District Rotary Club Chooses SCH
Seattle Children's Home has received one of the largest grants ever awarded by the University District Rotary Club.  The gift will be used to create the University District Rotary Family Support Program at SCH.  A room is being renovated to provide a place to stay for out-of-town families who are visiting their child in residence at McGraw Residential Treatment Center.

Tired Buildings Get Renovation Grants
The State of Washington has awarded Seattle Children's Home two state grants totaling $2,801,000 enabling us to remodel The McGraw Center and The Bridge buildings on our Queen Anne campus.  The renovations contribute to the objectives of treatment by providing a modern, less institutional milieu, while providing a safe and efficient operational environment for the residents, their families, and our staff.  Construction / remodel of The Bridge building will be completed in early 2009.  The McGraw building will be renovated starting in the spring of 2009.

SEAHAWKS TICKET SALES

Richard Reese, our most longstanding and committed volunteer organized yet another successful ticket sale program this year. For over 14 years Richard has been coordinating SCH's ticket sale program along with local sports organizations and their generous fan base. Thanks to the support of the Seahawks management, SCH is able to receive donated tickets from season ticket holders to home games and resell those tickets at face value to support our programs and services. If you're looking for tickets to the next big game, call Richard at our Seahawks hot line: 206-298-9634. You can also email us at pjohnson@seattlechildrenshome.org.

Throughout the year, generous supporters help us fund our mission-based work with children through events that they host. If you are interested in hosting a party, or opening up your business to an event to benefit Seattle Children's Home, please contact Lisa Hay, our Director of Development and Marketing, at 206-298-9650 or by email at lhay@seattlechildrenshome.org.  Events over the years to honor friends, sell products, or simply get friends together for a great cause have generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for SCH.

  • Guilds
The Dorothy Dixon Allen and Kerry Oliver Guilds are an active group of enthusiastic, hardworking and committed volunteers dedicated to the advancement and growth of Seattle Children's Home. There are more than 75 members who take pride in pursuing the mission of the Home by conducting fundraising and friend-raising projects throughout the year.

    • Kerry Oliver Guild (KOG)

History: Kerry Oliver was a dedicated housewife, a mother of several young children, and a friend of Seattle Children's Home. She was one of the first members of an auxiliary which began in 1982. After Kerry Oliver's untimely death in 1983, the members received their charter and named the guild in her honor.

Activities: Over the years, the Kerry Oliver Guild has organized a number of different events, the proceeds of which went directly to Seattle Children's Home. These events included selling tickets for ACT Theatres, hosting holiday parties and dances, and working in conjunction with Children's Hospital.

Every year in March, the Kerry Oliver Guild organizes a luncheon benefiting Seattle Children's Home. Invited guests gather in support of the Home and its mission to help children and their families. The KOG is looking forward to this year's event which will be held on March 15th at the Washington Athletic Club. This year the ladies are hosting a fashion show and luncheon that is sure to be a fun-filled event!

Despite the thousands of dollars this gathering raises each year, the annual KOG luncheon is much more than just a fund raising event. The luncheon is part of the Kerry Oliver Guild's broader mission of community outreach and awareness. Guild members are constantly working on behalf of SCH, attempting to raise awareness of the Home's innovation and expertise as it relates to children's mental health issues.

    • Dorothy Dixon Allen Guild (DDA)

History: Dorothy Dixon Allen was born in Missoula, Montana on July 4, 1903. She graduated from the University of Montana and married W.M. Allen in 1927. After moving to Seattle, Mrs. Allen served on the Board of Seattle Children's Home in the late 30's and early 40's. She was a dedicated volunteer, and particularly enjoyed reading to children in the Home's library. After her death in 1943, the guild was named in her honor. She was the mother of two daughters who are now members of the Allen Guild.

Activities: The DDA Guild completed a major landscape renewal project of our Queen Anne campus. It was the first such site renovation since the late 1980's. It was the Guild's wish to create a warm, safe, and welcoming environment to support the work Seattle Children's Home does with troubled children. We have the Guild to thank for the many beautiful trees, plants and flowers that bloom and inspire every year throughout our campus.

In addition to the support Dorothy Dixon Allen guild members provide through in-kind donations through out the year, it has become an annual tradition to gather for a potluck dinner in support of the Home. Year after year, this event continues to raise thousands of dollars, and helps to fund programs for the children and families served by Seattle Children's Home.
